Soccer Falls In Exhibition Opener Vs. South Alabama

8/10/2022 4:35:00 PM

The Jackson State University soccer team lost to South Alabama 3-0 Wednesday in the exhibition opener for both teams.

Kendyl Terrell had both shots on goal for JSU at the 29th minute and 80-minute marks, respectively. Tionna Taylor and Jordan Hamilton combined for seven saves in the match that featured three 30-minute periods.

"It was fantastic to play a quality side like South Alabama to give us a real barometer of where we are," said Jackson State soccer coach Dr. Ted Flogaites. "We haven't played them since 2019, and I think today showed our marked improvement since then. I was very encouraged by a lot of things today, but was most interested in the mentality and effort piece. I think we checked both boxes."

It was a good measuring stick match for JSU against South Alabama, the three-time defending Sun Belt Conference champions.

"We have lots of work still to do, but I was proud of our effort and the way we represented the University and the program," Dr. Flogaites said.  "I want to thank South Alabama for coming to play us. You have to test yourself against top teams to address your weaknesses, and we did that today."

Jackson State will conclude preseason play Sunday at Southern Miss at 1 p.m.
