Volleyball Closes out SEMO Tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.| The Jackson State University women's volleyball team closed out the Southeast Missouri State Tournament with a matchup against the host team. The Tigers fell to the Redhawks, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Houck Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Jackson State (1-2) opened the match keeping SEMO in close reach as the Tigers tied the first set eight times

-Southeast Missouri State (2-1) began to pull away from JSU 15-10

-The Tigers never recovered as the Redhawks went on to seal the first set victory 25-18

-SEMO hit the gas again in the second set taking a 20-13 advantage over the Tigers 

-The Redhawks took set two going on a 5-2 run to lay out a 25-16 win

-JSU got on the board first in the third set with a kill from Jylen Whitten 

-SEMO took an 8-3 lead over the Tigers before JSU clawed its way back into the game taking the lead, 13-11, with an ace from Trinity Bryant

-The Redhawks tied the score again at 22 with a kill from Kayla Closset as JSU fought to keep the game alive

-The Tigers held onto the lead only allowing SEMO to score one point and securing the 25-23 victory to force a fourth set

-SEMO kicked off the fourth set with a 4-0 lead

-Jackson State battled back in the game tying the score at 12 with a kill from Nevaeh Bray

-The Tigers weren't able to recover as the Redhawks began to pull away again going on a 13-10 run to take the win, 25-23

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Tigers finished with a total of 151 total attacks, 53 kills and 26 errors

-Alexis Williams led the offense with 14 kills, including 16 digs and one ace

-Damassy Thompson recorded 28 assists and one ace

-Karys Dove listed 19 assists for the Tigers

-Trinity Bryant finished with 14 digs

-JSU recorded 51 assists, five aces and 57 digs

UP NEXT

The Lady Tigers travel to Hammond, La. for a match against Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
