JACKSON, Miss.| A hard-fought opening Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup ended in a scoreless tie for Jackson State and Grambling State as JSU hosted its conference opener at the JSU Soccer Field Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Jackson State (1-6-1) opened the match with a save from goalkeeper Tionna Taylor as GSU's Samantha Diaz shot 4:43 into the game
-Grambling State (3-6-1) took another chance at the goal as Tanzanea Villacis shot out top at the 6:26 mark
-Kendyl Terrell shot for JSU at the 19:17 minute mark, but Grambling State's Madison Covey-Taylor registered her first save of the game
-Terrell shot again at the 26:48 mark but was unlucky as Covey-Taylor protected GSU's territory
-Maya-Joy Thompson took the first shot of the second half at the 49:46 mark
-Yayira Ahortor took her chance for JSU as Covey-Taylor came up with another save at the 64:40 mark
-Tionna Taylor recorded a save at 69:36 as Grambling State's Nia Harley shot
-Kendyl Terrell raced downfield one-one with the goalie as she shot for a chance to put Jackson State on top in the final minutes at 82:50, but was unsuccessful in the attempt
-Three back-to-back corner kicks for Grambling State ended the match in a 0-0 tie
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Jackson State shot seven times and Grambling State shot eight
-Tionna Taylor registered four saves, whole Madison Covey-Taylor finished with three saves
-Grambling State had four corner kicks to JSU's one
-GSU finished with 12 fouls; Jackson State had seven fouls

Jackson State will return to the JSU Soccer Field Sunday to continue conference play as it hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 1 p.m. The theme for the game is a white out and fans are encouraged to wear white.
