Volleyball Begins Conference Play At Home

JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State University volleyball team opened Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play against Alabama State Friday evening at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center. JSU fell 3-0 to the Hornets.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Alabama State (4-12) got on the board first with a kill from A'Nylah Cobb

-Jackson State (1-12) answered immediately as Olivia Flanagan recorded a kill

-Another kill by Flanagan tied the score at ten for JSU

-Nevaeh Bray added another kill to the Tigers' stats tying the score again at 12

-Alabama State went on a 13-4 run to close out set one, 25-15

-The Hornets jumped ahead to an 8-4 lead in the second set as Jada Rhodes registered a kill

-JSU clawed their way back in the match to trail ASU by one, 15-14, as Nevaeh Bray recorded another kill

-An attack error by Alabama State tied the score at 19

-Jordan Jones came up with a huge kill to give JSU the 20-19 lead

-Cobb listed another kill for the Hornets that tied the score at 21

-Jylen Whitten kept the set alive for JSU tying the score at 24 with a kill

-Alabama State scored on the next two rallies to secure the second set, 26-24

-ASU took a 19-9 lead over Jackson State to open the third set

-The Hornets sealed the third set, 25-15, and secured the 3-0 victory on a service ace

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Jackson State finished with 28 kills, 25 errors and 101 total attacks

-Olivia Flanagan led the Tigers' offense with nine kills

-Nevaeh Bray finished with two blocks

-Damassy Thompson registered 15 assists and Karys Dove finished with ten

-Alana Washington recorded 16 digs on defense

UP NEXT

The Tigers will return to the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center Sunday to continue conference play by hosting Alabama A&M at 4 p.m. The game theme is a white out and fans are encouraged to wear white.
