JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State University volleyball team topped Alabama A&M to secure its first conference win at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center Sunday afternoon. JSU cruised past the Bulldogs in three sets, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Jackson State (2-11, 1-1) jumped out to a 5-1 lead to open the match

-Alabama A&M (1-15, 0-1) tied the score at nine with a kill from Caitlin Shaw

-JSU fought back to tie the score at 14 with a kill from Nevaeh Bray

-The Tigers went on an 11-3 run to steal the first set victory, 25-17

-JSU got on the board first as Alexis Williams registered a kill to open the second set

-A kill by AAMU's Bailey Duckett listed a kill to tie the score at 15

-After tying the score eight times in set two, the Tigers pulled away at the end to take set 25-20

-Jackson State trailed the Bulldogs 10-7 as the Tigers tried to get back in the game

-Jordan Jones recorded a kill to tie the score at 11

-A kill and an ace from Alexis Williams put the Tigers back in front of the Bulldogs, 17-15

-Alabama A&M never caught its balance at JSU swept the Bulldogs in set three, 25019

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

-Alexis Williams led the offense with 15 kills, 19 digs and two aces

-Karys Dove registered 25 assists for the Tigers

-The Tigers finished with 48 kills and 110 total attempts

The Tigers will travel to Itta Bena, Miss. to face Mississippi Valley on Friday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
