JACKSON, Miss| Five Tigers posted double figures as Jackson State knocked off Bethune-Cookman 82-60 at home Saturday afternoon.
Ti'lan Boler led JSU in scoring with 20 points. Angel Jackson added 16 points, 10Â rebounds and four blocks from the bench and Daja Woodard helped out with 13 points off the bench.
Jariyah Covington registered 10 points in the win and Daphane White added another 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Jackson State (8-8, 5-1 SWAC) utilized fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 15 assists on 32 made field goals. Individually, Areyanna Hunter was on top of the distribution list for the Lady Tigers with four assists and Keshuna Luckett also added three assists of her own.
The Jackson State defense held Bethune-Cookman (3-13, 1-4 SWAC) shooters to just 36.2 percent from the field, including 30 percent from three-point range. The Lady Wildcats did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only five offensive rebounds and scored 12 second chance points while Jackson State pulled down 25 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
- After playing to a 3-3 tie early in the game, Jackson State went on a 6-0 run with 9:08 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Ti'Ian Boler, to take a 9-3 lead.
- The Tigers surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 15-9.
- Jackson State then cut the Lady Wildcats lead to 25-21 before going on a 10-0 run to take a 31-25 lead.
- The Wildcats cut into that lead, but the JSU still held onto a 35-32 advantage heading into halftime.
- Â Jackson State dominated in the paint, scoring 18 of its 26 points close to the basket.
- Jackson State continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Luckett, to expand its lead further to 52-41 with 3:02 to go in the third.
- Before the conclusion of the third period, BCU had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Tigers still entered the fourth quarter with a 57-48 edge.
- Jackson State scored 12 of its 22 points in the paint.
- The Tigers kept its lead intact before going on a 13-0 run to grow the lead to 70-50 with 5:27 to go in the contest.
- The blue and white kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 82-60 win.
- Â Jackson State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 25 points in the paint.
