BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Jackson State men's and women's track and field program competed in the Samford Open meet at the Birmingham Crossplex, with Tigers finishing strong in the top end of the events.
Shawn Collins finished first with a time 6.71s in the 60 meter dash during the finals, setting a new personal best of the season.
During the 60 meter hurdles, Erkyah Garrett finished with a 8.83s during the finals. Her teammate, Callie Calicut, who finished with a time of 8.88s during the prelims, both hit new season best during this event. Ivan Donaldson (8.40s) and Tyler Tremble (8.47s) also made a statement during this event.
In the field event, Javon Gray finished in first place during the Men's Triple Jump with a mark of 15.06m. In the shot put, Lilliann Dudley, finished in second place with a throw of 15.88 meters, followed by Davieon Center in the men's shot put finished in second place as well with a throw of 15.72 meters. Center also finished in third place during the men's weight throw with a throw of 16.57 meters.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers overall had a good meet and will get to get two full weeks of practice before they compete again. As the program would say, "WE WORK HARD!"
