JACKSON, Miss. | Sedgwrick Pitts Jr. will represent Jackson State University in the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for May 27-30, in Lexington, Kentucky, at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility on the UK campus.
Pitts earned his spot in the 200-meter dash after an impressive senior season with the Tigers. The Tyler, Texas native qualified with a time of 20.63 in the Georgia Tech Invitational back in April, where he earned second place.
He has been named Track Athlete of the Week by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) four times this season and also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash at SWAC Championships. Pitts was a key contributor on this year's men's championship team.
Start time for the first round of the 200-meter is 8:45 P.M. EST on May 27.
To qualify for the East preliminaries, the student-athletes must have finished the season ranked within the top 48 of their individual events or as a member of the top 24 relay team on their respective regional qualifying list (East or West).Â
The East and West Preliminaries will select the top 12 finishers in each event, with all 24 competitors advancing to the NCAA Championships. The West Preliminaries will take place at Texas A&M University in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Â
