BATON ROUGE, LA --Zeke Cook registered a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, but the Jackson State men's basketball team fell to the Southern Jaguars 73-62 on the road Monday.
The Tigers (6-16, 5-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Romelle Mansel, who had 16 points and nine rebounds. Coltie Young tacked on 13 points and Cook chipped in as well with a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Jackson State pulled down 32 rebounds in Monday's game compared to Southern's 28, led by Cook's 14 boards. The Tigers also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 11 rebounds into 13 second chance points.
How It Happened
Jackson State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 40-15 heading into halftime.
Jackson State narrowed its deficit to 54-38 before going on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 54-44 with 7:28 to go in the contest. Southern responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 73-62. Jackson State made the most of six offensive rebounds to tack on 10 second chance points out of 47 total in the period.
