Evans Secures Double-Double in Men's Hoops Loss to #15/16 Zags

SPOKANE, Wash. - Ken Evans Jr. notched a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, but the Jackson State men's basketball team fell to the #15/16 Gonzaga Bulldogs 100-76 on the road Wednesday at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Evans, who notched his first double-double of the season, led both teams in scoring with 23 points and was one of three Tigers (4-8) to score in double figures. Chase Adams added 14 points and five assists, and Coltie Young chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds.

Jackson State did an excellent job of sharing the basketball, dishing out 17 assists while holding on to it and committing just eight turnovers. Adams' five assists led the distribution list for the Tigers.

How It Happened
Jackson State struggled out of the gate to find their rhythm, falling behind 41-29 heading into halftime.

Gonzaga kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 98-68 advantage before Jackson State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Evans' three, to shrink the deficit to 98-74 with 1:09 to go in the contest. The Tigers could not cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 100-76. Jackson State shot well from 3-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 47 points from beyond the arc.

  • Evans Jr. recorded his first double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
  • The Tigers shot well from beyond the 3-point arc, knocking down 13 of 32 long-range attempts.
  • The Tigers shared the ball well, recording an assist on 65 percent of made field goals.

  • The Tigers as a team made a season-high 13 3-pointers. 
  • Jackson State got a team-high 10 rebounds from Evans.
  • Young has now scored in double figures in four straight games.
