CORAL GABLES, Fla.| The Jackson State women's basketball team went into halftime tied at 28 with Miami, but could not take control in the second half. The Tigers fell 59-52 to the Hurricanes on the road Wednesday evening.
Ti'lan Boler led the Tigers with 18 points and six rebounds. Miya Crump also added six points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks and Angel Jackson chipped in as well with four points, two steals and three blocks.
Boler pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Jackson State, grabbing 16 boards and turning them into 17 second chance points.
Jackson State did a great job disrupting Miami (FL) shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Jackson's three rejections led the way individually for the Tigers.
How It Happened
- After falling behind 12-6, Jackson State (5-5) went on an 8-0 run with 3:58 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Madison Roshelle, to take a 14-12 lead.
- The Tigers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 17-14.
- Jackson State kept the Hurricanes from increasing their lead before going on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a three from Ti'Ian Boler, to take a 25-23 lead.
- Miami (8-1) battled back to even it up at 28-28 heading into halftime.
- JSU dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 14 points close to the basket.
- The Hurricanes proceeded to claw their way ahead after halftime, leaving Jackson State trailing 44-41 as the game entered the fourth quarter.
- The Tigers turned five offensive rebounds into four second chance points on the way to scoring 13 total points in the quarter.
- Jackson State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 59-52.
- JSU took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 11 points in the paint.
