Jackson State Drops 78-58 Decision to Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore.| The Jackson State women's basketball team got an 18-point performance from the bench, but fell 78-58 to the Oregon State Beavers on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers had two players score in double figures, led by Ti'lan Boler, who had 20 points. Miya Crump tacked on 14 points and seven rebounds and Zakiya Mahoney added eight points.

Mahoney pulled down two offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Jackson State, grabbing 12 boards and turning them into nine second chance points.

How It Happened

  • After falling behind 5-0, Jackson State (5-3) went on a 6-0 run with 6:38 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Madison Roshelle, to take a 6-5 lead.
  • The Tigers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 14-8.
  • JSU continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 38-28 halftime deficit.
  • Jackson State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Tigers faced a 56-43 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.
  • The Tigers bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled six of the team's 15 third-quarter points.
  • Oregon State (7-0) kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 60-45 advantage before Jackson State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Ti'Ian Boler's three, to shrink the deficit to 60-50 with 5:57 to go in the contest.
  • The Beavers responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 78-58.
  • Jackson State took advantage of three Oregon State turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
