The Jackson State baseball team will open its 2023 home schedule Tuesday hosting Southeastern La. at 6 p.m. at Braddy Field.

The Tigers (2-1) won the final two games of the inaugural Houston Astros Cactus Jack HBCU Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston. After falling to Southern 5-4 on Friday, JSU beat Mississippi Valley State 14-1 in seven innings Saturday, and downed Prairie View A&M 8-3 Sunday.

Daniel Bannon led the way at the plate for Jackson State, batting .500 (7-for-14) over the weekend with four runs scored, one double, one triple, and seven RBI. 3B
Ty Hill also hit .500 (4-for-8) with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. SS
Colby Guy hit .429 (3-for-7), walked four times, and had four RBI as Jackson State hit .323 as a team.

On the mound, starters
Christian Womble and Guy combined to allow only five hits and three runs, walking six but striking out 21 in only 11 innings in the final two weekend games. The Tigers' bullpen allowed only five hits and one run, walking five and striking out 12 in 10 innings.

Southeastern La. (4-0) opened the season with a home weekend sweep of Lafayette of the Patriot League. The Lions hit .291 over the four games, walking 36 times and stealing 24 bases in 28 attempts. Tyler Finke (.455;5-11) and Champ Artigues (.429; 6-14) led the way at the plate and a combined 9-for-9 in steal attempts. SLU's starting pitching combined to allow 14 hits, four runs, nine walks, and 24 strikeouts.
