GRAMBLING, La. | Jackson State returns to conference play for a rare Thursday through Saturday series against Grambling State in a key Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on the road beginning Thursday.
The game will be on Thursday (6 p.m.), Friday (3 p.m.), and Saturday (1 p.m.).
The two teams have met already this season with Grambling State winning 8-7 on Feb. 22 at the Andre Dawson Classic in Vero Beach (Fla.) The two teams have met 28 times since 2010 with Jackson State leading the series 16-12, with Thursday's meeting being the ninth meeting in Grambling.
Jackson State (13-16, 4-5 SWAC) is led at the plate by Tyree Reed (.369/.960/.495/.465) with 38 hits including eight doubles, a triple and a home run; while he also has knocked in 17 RBI and scored 26 runs. Meanwhile, Pierre Cabral (.362/1.012/.571/.441) leds the team with five home runs and 28 RBI, while also collecting seven doubles and scoring 28 runs; while Robert Tate Jr. (.341/.881/.500/.381) has collected four home runs and 23 RBI from his lead-off spot. He has also collected a pair of doubles and three triples, while scoring 27 runs.
Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. (.306/.819/.389/.430) joins the group hitting over .300 for the year with four doubles.
Jayden Lopez (3-2/6.08 ERA/1.54 WHIP) has thrown 37.0 innings as the Sunday starter, recording 37 strikeouts; while Derek Arrocha (2-3/6.38 ERA/1.58 WHIP) has struck out 42 batters in 36.2 innings. Jaedeyn Edwards (1-0/5.29 ERA/1.82 WHIP) and Kade Walker (4-2/6.18 ERA/1.59 ERA) have been key out of the bullpen, combining for three saves.
