JACKSON, Miss. | Jackson State had five players chosen for the 2026 HBCU Swingman Classic to be played in Philadelphia during this year's MLB All-Star Weekend, an event that brings together 50 top Division I talents to showcase their skills on a national stage.
The game will take place at Citizens Bank Park on July 10 at 7 p.m. ET, and tickets are now available for purchase. The pool of players is hand-selected by a committee that includes MLB, scouts and Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr.
The Tigers had a pair of pitchers selected, including Derek Arrocha and Talmadge Davis, along with a pair of outfielders in Pierre Cabral and Tyree Reed, and infielder Robert Tate Jr. - his third selection.Â
Arrocha finished the 2026 season with a 7-6 record (5.94 ERA/1.66 WHIP) in 19 appearances, including 11 starts, while finishing the year with one complete game and one save. The junior righthander logged 83.1 innings, allowing 63 runs (55 earned) with 83 strikeouts compared to just 36 walks. He recorded a season-high nine strikeouts a pair of times, and was also named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week one time (Feb. 18) and Pitcher of the Week twice (April 23/May 13). He was joined by Davis who finished the year 2-2 (4.64 ERA/1/23 WHIP) in 22 appearances with 10 starts, while finishing the year with a pair of complete games. He logged 54.1 innings, allowing 39 runs (28 earned) on 36 hits with 74 strikeouts to just 31 walks. He also held opponents to a .189 batting average, while recording 10 or more strikeouts twice, including a career-high 15 against Alcorn State (May 2).Â
Davis earned Pitcher of the Week honors twice (April 29/May 6).
Meanwhile, Reed was one of two outfielders chosen after an all-conference season (.401/1.180/.624/.538). He finished the year with 75 hits with 23 extra base hits (14 doubles, two triples, and nine homeruns). He also scored 63 runs and drove in another 41, while walking 48 times and recording 10 stolen bases. He was joined by Cabral (.320/.949/.529/.420) who finished the year 66 hits includung 27 extra base hits (19 doubles and eight home runs). He also scored 52 runs and knocked in another 53, while also walking 28 times and getting 11 more. The senior finished with 14 stolen bases.
Tate (.319/.807/.437/.370) will be making his third appearance after shifting to third base during the 2026 season. He finished with 73 hits including 14 extra base hits (six doubles, three triples, and five home runs). He finished the season with 54 runs scored and 40 RBI, while also walking 18 times and being hit three more. The junior finished with 13 stolen bases, four sacrifice flies, and 10 sacrifice hits.
