The Jackson State baseball team rallied from a three-run deficit to beat UAPB 8-6 Tuesday night at Braddy Field.
Senior Jesse Caver (2-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Jackson State (6-2). The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up one hit, one walk and striking out three. Junior Daelan Caraway also pitched well, going 3.1 innings, surrendering two runs, one earned, on one hit, walking two and striking out four.
At the plate, the Tigers (6-2) were paced by freshman Jordon Smiley, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Junior Justin Johnson compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Junior Daniel Bannon also chipped in for Jackson State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers were trailing 2-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Jackson State put three runs on the board in the inning, highlighted by a run-scoring triple from Johnson.
After UAPB took a 6-3 lead in the top of the sixth, the Tigers tied the game with three runs in the sixth. Sophomore Colby Guy's run-scoring single was the big hit in Jackson State's three-run inning, which evened the score at 6-6.
In the seventh, Smiley's triple led off the inning and later scored on a wild pitch to give JSU the lead for good. Caleb Evans later scored on a double-steal attempt for the margin.
