Ruston, La. - Jackson State's track and field continues its 2023 outdoor season with its second weekend of the competition at the Jim Maze Relays.
During day one of competition for the 200 meter dash,
Shawn Collins finished first with a time of 20.89 seconds, Sedgwrick Pitts Jr in fourth place with a time of 21.61 seconds and
Jyquan Jackson finished in seventh place with a time of 21.86 seconds.
Carrington Blair finished in fifth place with a time of 25.89 seconds and
Erykah Garrett finished in seventh place with a time of 25.72 seconds.
In the field events, in the women's hammer throw,
Alexis Morris finished in first place with a throw of 49.89 meters,
Kymoi Noray finished in fourth place with a throw of 45.59 meters and
Lilliann Dudley finished in eighth place with a throw of 39.46 meters. During the men's hammer throw,
Jalen Walker finished in second place with a throw of 46.63 meters followed by his teammate
Johnny Howell with a throw of 44.52 meters.
During the men's discus throw,
Jalen Walker finished in first place with a throw of 45.44 meters and
Davieon Center finished in third place with a throw of 43.21 meters. In the women's discus throw,
Alexis Morris finished with another first place finish during this meet. Morris had a mark of 42.65 meters to close out day one of competition.
During day two of competition, in the running events,
Shawn Collins finished first with a time of 10.39 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Erykah Garret finished second in the women's 100 meters hurdles with a time of 14.48 seconds.
The Tigers finished second and fourth in the men's 110 meter hurdles. Ivan Donaldson finished with a time of 14.96 seconds and Tyler Tremle finished with 15.13 seconds.
In the 400 meter dash,
Hanif Muhammad finished in fourth place with a time of 50.98 seconds. In the women's 400 meters,
Carrington Blair finished in third place with a time of 57.90 seconds.
Jiya Clayton followed with a fifth place finish with a time of 58.67 seconds.
In the Men's 400 meter hurdles,
Tayari Sherwood placed in third place with a time of 56.20 seconds.
During the 800 meter dash, Amara Hawkins and
Jiya Clayton placed second and third in the women's 800 meters.
Marquentin Barnes finished in first place with a time of 1:55.30 seconds,
Caleb Crutcher (1:56.79 seconds) and
Shafi Muhammad (1:58.05 seconds) finished in third and fourth place.
In the men's 3000 meter run,
Jeremiah Hudson finished in fourth place with time of 9:35.22 seconds.
In field events, Sherman Hawkins finished first with a jump of 2.00 meters and
Ciara Corley finished in fourth place with a jump of 1.45 meters during the men's and women's high jump.
Javon Gray finished in third in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.79 meters.
In the women's and men's shot put event,
Lilliann Dudley placed first with a throw of 14.68 meters and
Johnny Howell placed first with a throw of 15.07 meters.
In the women's javelin,
Kymoi Noray finished in third place with a throw of 41.71 meters and
Tayari Sherwood finished in sixth place with a throw of 45.62 meters.
