Boler Registers Double-double in JSU's Win Over UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark.| Daphane White and Ti'lan Boler combined to score 35 points in Jackson State's 56-42 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on the road Thursday evening.

Jackson State had two players score in double figures, led by White, who had 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Boler tacked on a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Angel Jackson added four points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

White pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Jackson State, grabbing 13 boards and turning them into 16 second chance points.

Jackson State's defense held UAPB to only 24.6 percent shooting from the field, including 13.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Tigers also limited Coriah Beck to 4-of-15 shooting in the game. The Golden Lions did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with eight offensive rebounds and managed 11 second chance points while Jackson State cleared 28 defensive rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jackson State (19-8, 16-1) went on a 5-0 run with 9:22 left in the first quarter after the score was tied at two, culminating in a bucket from White, to take a 7-2 lead.
  • The Tigers maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with an 11-6 advantage.
  • Jackson State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket.
  • Jackson State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 5-0 run starting at the 6:51 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 16-9.
  • Arkansas-Pine Bluff (11-16, 9-8 SWAC) cut into that lead, but JSU still enjoyed a 16-15 advantage heading into halftime.
  • Jackson State saw non-starters score two of its five total points off the bench in the quarter.
  • After the half, Jackson State added to its advantage and owned a 33-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Jackson State played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 17 points in the paint.
  • JSU kept its lead intact before going on a 12-0 run to grow the lead to 47-33 with 4:35 to go in the contest.
  • The Tigers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 56-42 win.
  • Jackson State took advantage of two UAPB turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of those takeaways.
