Baseball's Rally Comes Up Short

The Jackson State baseball team rallied from an early deficit but came up short to Alabama State 9-7 Saturday in game two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference series at Braddy Field.

Ty Hill had three hits with a run scored, while Caleb Evans homered, had two hits, and drove in three runs for Jackson State (13-7 overall, 1-4 SWAC). Daniel Bannon, Jordon Smiley, and Jaelen Williams each had two hits for the Tigers.

Trailing 8-3 in the sixth inning, Williams was hit by a pitch before Evans homered to left center field on a 1-0 pitch to cut the deficit to 8-5.

In the seventh trailing 9-5, the Tigers rallied again. Hill doubled down the left-field line with one out before Smiley doubled to left center. With two outs, Williams singled to left field, scoring Hill. Evans followed with an infield single, scoring Smiley for the final margin, but Jackson State would get no closer.

The final game of the series is Sunday at Noon.
