Baseball Loses Finale Of Series

The Jackson State baseball team lost to Alabama State 6-3 Sunday in the final game of the Southwestern Athletic Conference series at Braddy Field.

Marshal Luiz went 2-for-3 at the plate, and his two-out single to center field in the second inning scored Jordon Smiley to get the Tigers on the board. Marcus Atterberry, who walked earlier in the inning, then scored on an error to give JSU a 2-0 lead.

After Alabama State tied the game in the fifth, the Tigers regained the lead in the sixth. Bret Mersman singled to right field with one out, and moved to third on Luiz's single to right center. Myles White followed with a single to left, scoring Mersman for a 3-2 Tigers lead.

However, Alabama State added a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the final margin.

Jackson State (13-8 overall, 1-5 SWAC) returns to action Wednesday hosting Tougaloo at 6 p.m. at Braddy Field.
