DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.| The Jackson State softball team rallied from a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning to win in thrilling fashion, earning a 5-4 victory over Bethune-Cookman Saturday afternoon to even out the series.
Macie Kuppenbender (3-3) got the win for Jackson State in the circle. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on seven hits, allowing three walks and striking out one.
Hermariya Stephens led the way offensively for the Tigers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBI. Brooklyn Morris put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Isabel Gusman also chipped in, going 1-for-3 for Jackson State with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (15-16, 4-4 SWAC) trailied 2-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board.
- The Tigers scored three times, picking up one on an RBI base knock off the bat of Gusman.
- Bethune-Cookman tied the ballgame at three before the Tigers came back to reclaim their advantage in the seventh inning.
- Jackson State scored twice on Stephens' two-run homer, which brought JSU's lead to 5-3.
- Bethune-Cookman put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Jackson State still held on for the 5-4 win.

- Jackson State's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed three runs across.
- The Tigers out-hit the Wildcats at an 8-7 clip.
