ITTA BENA, Miss. - The Jackson State baseball team lost at Miss. Valley State 14-13 Friday at Magnolia Field.
Marcus Atterberry hit two home runs and Jordon Smiley also homered in the game for Jackson State. Jatavis Melton had three hits and scored two runs as every JSU position player scored at least one run.
Trailing 5-0 after two innings, Jackson State scored seven in the third inning. Smiley's three-run homer and Daniel Bannon's two-run single were the big hits in the inning as JSU took a 7-5 lead.
JSU rallied again late in the contest, erasing a 10-8 deficit after seven innings. Ty Hill's two-run single scored Bannon and Melton to tie the score. Hill later scored on an error before Atterberry's two-run homer gave JSU a 13-10 lead.
However, the Delta Devils scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to take the win.
Game two of the series is Saturday at 2 p.m.
