OXFORD, Miss. – The Jackson State outdoor track and field teams battled through chilly, rainy conditions to post several bests at the Joe Walker Invitational at Ole Miss.
On the men's side, Freshman Kaseem Ibraheem-Washington posted a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.13 seconds.
Sophomore Jyquan Jackson set personal bests in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Jackson finished second in the 100 with a time of 10.56 seconds, and seventh in the 200 at 21.47 seconds.
In the 110-meter hurdles, freshman Ivan Donaldson finished fifth with a time of 14.40 seconds. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Marquentin Barnes finished eighth with a personal best time of 9:34.07 seconds.
In the long jump, freshman Sherman Hawkins finished third with a personal best mark of 7.21 meters (23' 8"), with teammate Jai Banks-Chambers finishing eighth with a personal best outdoor mark of 6.83 meters (22' 5").
In women's action, sophomore Erkyah Garrett finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles at a time of 14.04 seconds. She also set a personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.24 seconds.
Sophomore Jiya Clayton finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.33 seconds.
In the javelin, junior Kymoi Noray finished fourth with a personal best mark of 44.10 meters (144' 8").
On national performance lists, senior Shawn Collins continues to rank second in the nation in the 400-meter dash with a time of 45.60 seconds. Hawkins ranks 14th nationally in the high jump with a mark of 2.16 meters (7' 1").
In the South region team rankings, the JSU men rank 20th, while the Lady Tigers rank 35th.
Jackson State returns to action Saturday in the one-day Strawberry Relays hosted by Southeastern La.
