MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jackson State baseball team fell to Alabama State 24-7 Friday night in the Southwestern Athletic Conference series opener.
Daniel Bannon and Ty Hill each went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Marcus Atterberry and Bret Mersman each drove in two runs for Jackson State (19-13 overall, 4-9 SWAC).
Bannon tripled to left center to lead off the game and scored on a Jatavis Melton single. Hill then singled to center field, moving Melton third. Hill then stole second before Atterberry's two-run single to left scored Melton and Hill for a 3-0 lead.
The Tigers scored again in the final inning. Marshal Luiz singled to lead off the inning before Cesar Saavedra pinch-ran. Omar Gomez walked before Bannon's single to left scored Saavedra. With one out, Hill singled through the left side, scoring Gomez. With two outs, Mersman doubled down the left field line, scoring Bannon and Hill.
Game two of the series is Saturday at 6 p.m.
