HAMMOND, La. - The Jackson State outdoor track and field teams posted strong finishes in the weather-affected Strawberry Relays hosted by Southeastern La. over the weekend.
Rain and thunderstorms throughout the day affected all participants, as Jackson State pushed through to post six top-three finishes.
The Jackson State women finished first and third in the 100-meter hurdles, with sophomore Erkyah Garrett winning with a time of 14.32, ahead of teammate freshman Callie Calicut's 14.87.
Garrett was a part of the 4x100 meter relay team with Artajia Richardson, Carrington Blair, and Eryn Garrett that finished fourth with a time of 47.43.
The Lady Tigers also had a pair of top-six finishes in the women's hammer throw. Junior Alexis Morris placed fourth with a mark of 48.19 meters (158 ' 1"), while teammate sophomore Lillian Dudley was sixth at 44.99m (147'7").
In men's competition, the Tigers 4x100 meter relay team of junior Donovan Hunt, senior Shawn Collins, freshman Sedgwrick Pitts Jr., and sophomore Jyquan Jackson finished second with a time of 40.65.
Senior Jeremiah Hudson finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10.23.58.
JSU went 4-5 in the 110-meter hurdles with freshman Ivan Donaldson (personal best time of 14.66) and sophomore Tyler Tremble (14.92). Freshman Raekwon Hopkins finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:12.01.
JSU had two of the top three finishes in the hammer throw. Senior Johnny Howell finished second (49.40 m / 162 '1"), and freshman Jalen Walker third (personal best mark of 48.79m / 160 ' 1").
Jackson State will compete in the Warhawk Invitational hosted by Louisiana Monroe Friday and Saturday in Monroe, La.
