Box Score 1 NEW ORLEANS, La.| The Jackson State men's and women's tennis teams advanced to the SWAC finals in the 2023 conference tournament after defeating their semifinal opponents. The women's team took down Alabama State 4-1 and the men's team outlasted Alabama A&M 4-2 to reach Sunday's matches.
The women will take on #1 Florida A&M at 9 a.m. and the men will face #1 Alabama State at 1 p.m.
Jackson State women's tennis team opened the day sweeping the doubles victory as Paula Arcarons and Daniela Ramos took down their opponents, 6-3. Tyra-Nicole Whyte and Robin Alston followed suit defeating their opponents 6-3.
Alston gave the Tigers a 2-0 advantage when she sealed the first singles win 6-3, 6-4 over Lizaveta Demchenko. Zeina Shabaan defeated Timothee Legaud, 6-3, 6-3. Whyte went three sets with Francesca Duca falling in the first set 6-7 but coming out on top 6-1, 6-1 in sets two and three to seal the victory for Jackson State.
The Jackson State men's tennis team opened the day by winning the doubles point as Raul Centeno and Carlos Castillo beat their opponents 6-2. Gokalp Ayar and Richy Gamo finished right behind their teammates beating their opponents 6-2.
Raul Cento extended the Tigers' advantage after taking down Vence N'Thca 6-3, 6-4. Jesus Gonzales pushed JSU forward with a 6-4, 6-1 singles win over Divesh Gahlot. Carlos Castillo sealed the win for the Tigers defeating Freddie Lawrence 6-1, 6-0 after falling behind in the first set 6-2.
The Tigers are set to compete in the SWAC Championship matches tomorrow at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans, La.
