Softball Defeats FAMU in Series Opener

JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State softball team opened game one of its series finale defeating Florida A&M 9-6 Friday afternoon at the JSU Softball Field. Takiya Hill took the win in the circle for the Tigers pitching five innings and only allowing two runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jackson State (23-24, 12-10 SWAC) trailed 3-0 after the top of the first inning.
  • The Tigers responded immediately in the bottom of the first and took the 5-3 lead.
  • Three JSU batters were walked to load the bases.
  • Isis Taylor put the ball in play to force an error bringing Brooklyn Morris home.
  • Alexis Arredondo singled to center field to score two more runs tying the game at three.
  • Isis Taylor stole home on a passed ball to give JSU the go-ahead.
  • Smaiyyah Huckabee singled to center field scoring Arredondo as the Tigers closed out the first inning with a 5-3 lead.
  • Florida A&M scored another run in the top of the second inning as Janea Mobley advanced on an error and Davis scored.
  • The Rattlers tied the game at five in the top of the third inning as JSU committed an error that allowed a run to come across.
  • FAMU then took the lead in the op of the fourth as Jackson State suffered another error that allowed the Rattlers to score again.
  • The Tigers came back in the bottom of the inning to tied it at six as Jace Jackson singled to center field driving in Madison Perry.
  • Jackson State's defense went three up and three down in the top of fifth before scoring its last three run in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Tigers held the Rattlers scoreless in the top of the seventh to take the 9-6 win in game one.
UP NEXT
JSU will return to the diamond Sunday afternoon to face FAMU in a doubleheader to close out the series finale at home. First pitch is set for noon and the second game will follow.
