MONTGOMERY, Ala.| Alabama State's one-run fourth inning proved to be the difference in the ballgame, as the Jackson State softball team lost a nail biter on Thursday evening, 3-2, to open its series at ASU.
Brooklyn Morris (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Jackson State. Victoria Salazar was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
Mari Stephens led the way offensively for the Tigers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame. Marissa Medina put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a double. Jalia Hubbard also helped out, going 0-for-2 for Jackson State with two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (17-21, 6-7 SWAC) trailed 2-0 as ASU got on the board first scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
- The Tigers tied the game in the fourth inning when Jalia Hubbard reached on an error by the third basemen and Brooklyn Morris and Marissa Medina scored.
- Alabama State then scored one more time in the bottom of the fourth to break the tie.
- Despite having two runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth inning, Jackson State couldn't score again as ASU grabbed the 3-2 win.

- Jackson State finished with two runs, four hits and two errors.
- Alabama State finished with three runs, seven hits and two errors.
- The Tigers' highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.
- The JSU pitchers faced 26 Alabama State hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out one.
- Stephens led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-4.
- Alabama State was led offensively by Madison Myers, who went 2-for-3.
- Ashley Pye led the Hornets pitching staff, throwing five innings of two-run ball.
