MONTGOMERY, Ala.| Despite picking up six hits in the ballgame and out-hitting the hosts, the Jackson State softball team was unable to push across more runs, as it fell to Alabama State 3-1 in the first game of Friday's doubleheader. In game two, the Tigers struggled to cash in runs, leaving 10 on base in an 11-6 loss.
GAME 1 | Alabama State 3, Jackson State 1
Kuppenbender (1-4) got the ball to start for Jackson State and took the loss.
Victoria Salazar was Macie a bright spot for the Tigers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits.
At the plate, the Tigers were paced by Mari Stephens, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI.
Monica Serrano compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (17-22, 6-8) put runs on the scoreboard first in the third inning as the Tigers got an RBI single from Stephens, scoring Alexis Arredondo from third base.
- Alabama State scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead from the Tigers.
- JSU wasn't able to score again as the Hornets walked away with the 3-1 win.

Jace Jackson led the way offensively for the Tigers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with an RBI. Medina furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Monica Serrano also contributed, going 1-for-2 for Jackson State with a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson State (17-23, 6-9 SWAC) trailed 8-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board.
- The Tigers put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from Jackson.
- JSU kept the Hornets off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fourth.
- Samiyyah Huckabee came across to score the lone run of the inning for Jackson State, which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Hornets.
- Alabama State built its lead to 11-4 before the JSU offense got going, reducing that lead to 11-5 in the sixth.
- The Tigers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Medina.
- Jackson State held the Hornets off the board before narrowing the gap further in the seventh.
- The Tigers crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning, tightening the Alabama State lead to 11-6.
- The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally as JSU fell short.
