Baseball Falls In Series Opener At Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Jackson State baseball team lost its Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division series opener at Bethune-Cookman 5-0 Thursday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

After a slow start, JSU starting pitcher Christian Womble was dominant. After allowing four runs and four hits in the opening inning, Womble did not allow a hit or a run over the final six innings. He walked four and tied a season-high with 11 strikeouts, including striking out the side in the seventh.

Unfortunately, the Tigers' offense couldn't get going, stranding two base runners in both the sixth and ninth innings.

Daniel Bannon, Bret Mersman, Myles White, Marcus Atterberry, Marshal Luiz, and Omar Gomez each had a hit for Jackson State (27-22 overall, 12-16 SWAC), which will play game two of the series Friday at 5 p.m. central time with the radio broadcast online at gojsutigers.com/live.
