FRISCO, Texas – Former Jackson State golfer Tim O'Neal is off to a strong start on the PGA Champions Tour in 2023.
A Jackson State Sports Hall Of Famer with 16 wins in college as a SWAC Champion golfer who has played professionally worldwide, O'Neal has posted three Top 15 finishes on tour this season, including his best finishes of the season earlier in May in back-to-back events.
O'Neal finished 10th with an 8-under par 208 score in the 54-hole Mitsubishi Electric Classic at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Ga. which concluded May 7. He followed up that performance one week later with an 11th-place finish in the first major of the season, shooting 11-under par 277 in the 72-hole Regions Tradition in Hoover, Ala., which concluded May 14.
This past weekend, O'Neal finished tied for 31st in the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in Frisco, Texas with a score of 1-over par 289, highlighted by a pair of eagles during the weekend (on the par five 15th on Friday; on the par five 9th on Saturday). O'Neal finished ahead of 10 major tournament winners in a stellar field, including Michael Campbell, John Daly (WD), Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Todd Hamilton, Steve Jones, Tom Lehman, Davis Love III, Corey Pavin, and Mike Weir.
