The Jackson State baseball team lost to Florida A&M 10-5 Friday night in the SWAC series opener at Braddy Field.
Ty Hill scored twice and hit his sixth home run of the season in the third inning for Jackson State. Myles White had three hits and a run scored, while Daniel Bannon had two hits for the Tigers.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, JSU took its first lead. White led off with a double, and moved to third on a bunt single by Marcus Atterberry. Marshal Luiz' sac bunt moved Atterberry to second base. A ground out by Omar Gomez scored White before Cesar Saavedra's single through the left side scored Atterberry for a 2-1 JSU lead.
After FAMU tied the game in the third, Hill's two-out homer to left field on a 1-1 pitch in the bottom of the inning put Jackson State back in front 3-2.
However, the Rattler regained the lead in the fourth and extend to a 7-3 lead before JSU rallied in the eighth. Hill walked, Bret Mersman singled through the right side, and White was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Back-to-back sacrifice flies by Atterberry to score Hill and Luiz to score Mersman cut the deficit to 7-5 but Jackson State could get no closer.
Game two of the series is Saturday at 3 p.m.
