PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Both the Jackson State men's and women's track teams finished near the top of the standings as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships came to a close at Prairie View A&M.
The JSU men finished third with 116 points behind champion Alabama St. (143) and Texas Southern (120). The Jackson State women finished fourth with 78.33 points behind champion Prairie View A&M (159), Southern (105.33), and Alabama St. (99).
In men's competition, Sherman Hawkins won the high jump with a mark of 2.14m (7' .25")
Ivan Donaldson won the 400-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 51.73 seconds. He was one of three JSU athletes to finish in the top eight, with Tyler Tremble sixth with a personal best at 55.08, and Tayari Sherwood eighth at 56.69.
Davieon Carter finished fourth in the discus with a personal-best mark of 47.50m (155' 10").
Javon Gray finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.74m (48' 4.5").
Donaldson set a personal best in the 110 hurdles, finishing fourth at 14.18 seconds, ahead of teammate Tyler Tremble who finished sixth with a time of 14.54.
Shawn Collins finished second in both the 400-meter run (46.37) and in the 200 (personal-best 20.61). Jallah Galimah finished sixth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:43.95.
The men finished second in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 40.29 seconds, and sixth in the 4x400 meter relay with a season-best time of 3:13.81.
In women's competition, Lillian Dudley won the shot put with a mark of 14.74m (48' 4.5").
In the triple jump, Mya Grimes set a personal best mark of 11.63m (38' 2").
Erkyah Garrett finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 13.69 seconds.
Amara Hawkins-Quinones finishes sixth in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:17.66.
The Lady Tigers had three athletes in the top eight in the 400-meter hurdles, each running personal-best times. Callie Calicut finished third at 1:00.75, just ahead of teammate Jiya Clayton's fourth-place finish at 1:00.79. Garrett finished seventh at 1:03.91.
The 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams each set season-best times. The 4x100 team finished fifth with a time of 46.35 seconds, while the 4x400 team finished fourth with a time of 3:36.25.
