JSU Student-Athletes Thrive in the Classroom During the 2022-23 Academic Year, Athletics Earns SWAC Academic Honor

JACKSON, Miss.| As the 2022-23 academic year comes to a close, Jackson State University student-athletes achieved championship success in competition and in the classroom with another outstanding academic showing.

"Our student-athletes continue to make us proud as they achieve extraordinary academic success here at Jackson State University," said JSU Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Compliance, Malone Silver. "We are extremely thankful for the hard work and dedication that our student-athletes put in as well as our academics support team in helping our students achieve their academic success and setting the foundation for their individual career."

In the spring 2023, Jackson State had 152 student-athletes who attained above a 3.0 grade point average. There were 41 student athletes who earned above a 4.0.

As a collective, Jackson State student-athletes combined for a 3.05 grade point average in the Spring 2023 semester. Of the 15 athletics units including cheerleading, men's tennis led the way with a 3.59 GPA, just ahead of women's soccer with a 3.54 GPA. Women's volleyball earned a 3.45 GPA and women's bowling finished with 3.41 GPA.

For the 2022-23 academic year, Jackson State University student-athletes combined for a 3.06 grade point average, with 66 students earning degrees.

The Division of Athletics was also awarded the 2022-23 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Academic Success Award. The SWAC Academic Success Award is an award decided based upon each member institution's collective ranking in the categories of highest four-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) average, highest single year APR average, and highest Graduate Success Rate (GSR).

Jackson State claimed the Academic Success Award finishing with a total of 35 points based upon the point scale system used to determine an institutional winner.
