CARBONDALE, Ill.| The Jackson State soccer team opened its 2023 campaign on the road at Southern Illinois Thursday afternoon. The Tigers were edged 2-1 by the Salukis after SIU scored on a late penalty kick at the 79:57 mark in the second half.
"First, I'd like to congratulate Coach Orr on his first win at SIU Carbondale. We were wide of the mark in many areas in terms of how we want to play, that's my responsibility," said Tigers head coach Ted Flogaites. "It was nowhere near the level of performance we are capable of. It's not enough for us anymore to be in matches, our expectation is far higher than that. The first goal we conceded was really poor, and we've got to be better in those instances. For the goal we scored, the pass in was sharp and Maya Thompson finished clinically, but that should have been happening over and over."
