MOBILE, Ala.| The Jackson State volleyball team opened its season Friday morning at the South Alabama Tournament facing Stephen F. Austin and Tulane. The Tigers dropped both matches 3-0; SFA (15-25, 17-25, 20-25) and Tulane (13-25, 15-25, 16-25).
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
· Jackson State (0-1) found itself in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-15.
· JSU trailed by as many as 12 points as Stephen F. Austin (1-0) grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was knotted up just once before the Ladyjacks took control.
· The Tigers then lost the second set 25-17 to fall behind in the match two sets to none.
· JSU fell in set two despite a strong performance on the attacking side.
· Jackson State put together a .323 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set loss.
· Jackson State couldn't prolong the match and lost in set three, 20-25, despite an impressive defensive effort.
· The Tigers totaled eight blocks in the set loss.
·
Hope Briggs finished with 10 kills in the match to lead the Tiger's offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .346.
· JSU got nine digs from Briggs along with five blocks from
Jordan Jones to lead them defensively.

Hope Briggs had a team-high 10 kills for Jackson State and a team-high nine digs.
· JSU attackers were helped by a team-high 22 assists from
Naija Gadis.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 2
· The Tigers found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-13.
· Jackson State trailed by as many as 13 points as Tulane (1-0) grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up three times before the Green Wave took control.
· Jackson State trailed by as many as 10 points as Tulane grabbed the advantage at 11-10 in a set that was tied up six times.
· JSU then dropped set two 25-15 to fall behind in the match two sets to none.
· The Tigers fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set 25-16 as Tulane claimed the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Naija Gadis registered an ace in the loss.
·
Alexis Williams had a team-high eight kills for Jackson State and led the team in attacks.
·
Trinity Bryant recorded 15 digs while
Nyjha Marcelin tacked on 10 more.
· Jackson State's attackers were helped by a team-high 21 assists from Gadis.
