Tigers Drop Midday Matchup Against USC Upstate

JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State soccer team hosted the University of South Carolina-Upstate in its final non-conference match of the season Monday morning at the JSU Soccer Field. The Tigers fell just short of the victory, 2-1, as USC Upstate was able to produce another goal with roughly six minutes left in the match.
 
How It Happened
USC Upstate (3-1-4) came out strong attacking the goal 4:48 into the match as Nya Baccelli shot forcing JSU's Rebecca Jamieson to register the save. Kiana Tulloch shot back-to-back for Jackson State (1-7) but Cora Brendle with a save. Dara Russo scored for the Spartans at 17:42 for the 1-0 advantage in the first half.
 
Maya Thompson shot at the 23:16 mark as Brendle came up with another save. The Tigers evened the score with a goal from Kyla Sands at 24:19. Kalia Uehara was credited with the assist. The draw carried into the half as neither team scored again.
 
USC Upstate came into the second half attempting to break the tie as Emily Sanders shot at the 51:50 mark but it was off target. Nya Baccelli broke the tie at the 83:45 mark to give the Spartans the 2-1 advantage with nearly six minutes remaining in the game. Jackson State only took two shots in the second half but nothing the Tigers tried was enough as time expired.
