Marcelin and Williams Register Double-doubles in JSU's Road Win Over Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.| Nyjha Marcelin and Alexis Williams both secured double-doubles to help lead the Jackson State volleyball team to a 3-1 victory (25-20, 25-20, 15-25, 25-21) over Bethune-Cookman on the road Friday evening at Richard V. Moore Gymnasium.

The conference victory improved Jackson State's record to 6-6 overall and 2-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action.

The Tigers were led by double-doubles from both Marcelin, who had 10 kills and 14 digs, and Williams, who had 13 kills and 11 digs. Hope Briggs also added 13 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Trinity Bryant chipped in for with 16 digs to go with five blocks from Kyahana Robinson.

How It Happened

  • Jackson State (6-6, 20 SWAC) earned a set-one victory 25-20 powered by a solid performance on the attacking side.
  • JSU registered a .314 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set victory.
  • The Tigers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
  • The Tigers won the second set 25-20 to quickly take a 2-0 lead.
  • JSU scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory.
  • Jackson State opened up as much as a nine point lead at 12-3 before closing out the set.
  • Bethune-Cookman (1-13, 1-2 SWAC) stayed alive with a set-three win to make it a 2-1 match.
  • The Tigers dropped a tough set 25-15.
  • Jackson State trailed by as many as 10 points as Bethune-Cookman grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up two times before the Wildcats took over the lead.
  • Jackson State then responded to end the match with a 25-21 set-four victory.
