HUNTSVILLE, Ala.| Angel Jackson put on a show against Alabama A&M as she notched 17 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks in Jackson State's 70-41 win over Alabama A&M on the road Saturday afternoon. The Tigers held Alabama A&M to just 16.7 percent from beyond the arc in a 3-for-18 shooting performance.
The Tigers (8-6, 3-0) had four players score in double figures, led by Jackson. Zakiya Mahoney tacked on 11 points and seven rebounds and Andriana Avent and Miya Crump each helped out with 10 points
Jackson State out-rebounded Alabama A&M 43-35 in Saturday's game, led by Jackson's 14 boards. The Tigers also collected 16 offensive rebounds and scored 13 second chance points.
JSU's defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 20 Alabama A&M turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 21 points on the other end of the floor. Jackson's three steals led the way individually for the Tigers.
How It Happened
- Jackson State (8-6, 3-0 SWAC) went on an 8-0 run with 8:37 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Jackson, to take an 8-2 lead.
- The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 12-7 advantage.
- Jackson State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 12 points close to the basket.
- JSU maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 26-22 edge.
- Jackson State also ran the fast break well, scoring four fast break points.
- The Tigers wasted no time building on its lead, going on a 15-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Avent, to expand its lead further to 41-22 with 3:42 to go in the third.
- Before the third period was over, the Tigers added two points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 48-27 edge.
- Jackson State took advantage of six Alabama A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.
- JSU kept its lead intact before going on a 12-0 run, finished off by Taylor Woodhouse's three, to grow the lead to 68-39 with 41 seconds to go in the contest.
- The Tigers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 70-41 win.
- Jackson State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 22 points in the paint.

- Jackson State shot 24-for-59 (40.7 percent) from the field and 90.5 percent (19-for-21) from the free throw line.
- Angel Jackson notched a double-double for the Tigers with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
