MONTGOMERY, Ala.| The Jackson State volleyball team racked up 11 blocks on the way to a three-set win (25-17, 26-24, 29-27) over Alabama State Friday on the road at Lockhart Gymnasium.
The conference victory improved Jackson State's record to 8-8 overall and 4-1 in SWAC play.
The Tigers attack was paced by Jayden James, who finished with 14 kills on the day, and by Alexis Williams, who had 11 while hitting .259. got 11 digs from Trinity Bryant along with six blocks from Jordan Jones and five rejections from Kyra Dove to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
- Jackson State (8-8, 4-1 SWAC) earned a set-one victory 25-17 powered by a solid performance on the attacking end.
- The Tigers registered a .381 attack percentage with 11 kills in the set victory.
- JSU ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
- After their win in the first set, Jackson State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 26-24 victory in set number two.
- The Tigers came out on top of a tight second set, winning in a stanza that was tied three times and had two lead changes.
- Jackson State then finished off the match with a victory in set number three.
- The Tigers survived a furious Alabama State rally in the set, holding on to win 29-27 after leading by nine points at 15-6 earlier in the stanza.
- JSU racked up 17 kills over the course of the set.
- Jackson State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Alabama State attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 10 Alabama State attacking errors on the way to victory.
