James and Williams Register Double-doubles Loss to Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.| Jayden James and Alexis Williams both secured double-doubles, but the Jackson State volleyball team fell to the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 3-2 (19-25, 25-12, 24-28, 25-23, 13-15) Sunday on the road at Elmore Gymnasium.

The loss dropped Jackson State's record to 8-9 overall and 4-2 in SWAC action.

The Tigers were led by the double-doubles from Williams, who had 12 kills and 10 digs, and James, who had 15 kills and 11 digs. Kyra Dove added 15 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Karys Dove chipped in for with 11 digs to go with five blocks from Kyra Dove.How It Happened

  • The Tigers found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-19.
  • Jackson State trailed by as many as six points as Alabama A&M grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that was tied up eight times before the Bulldogs took over in the second half of the stanza.
  • JSU rallied from a first-set loss to take set two 25-12, tying the match at 1-1.
  • The Tigers scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory.
  • Jackson State opened up as much as a 14 point lead at 24-10 before closing out the set.
  • JSU hit .423 over the course of the set.
  • Alabama A&M took a 2-1 match lead after taking down the Tigers in set three.
  • JSU fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set 28-24.
  • Jackson State then responded to win the fourth set 25-23 to force a fifth set.
  • The Tigers took the lead for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the  Tigers took over in the second half of the stanza.

  • The Tigers came up short in a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but losing the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-13, to fall in the match.
