JSU Defeat Southern 3-1 After Dropping First Set

BATON ROUGE, La.| The Jackson State volleyball team stormed back after falling in set one to secure a 3-1 win (22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16) over Southern Monday night on the road at Seymour Gymnasium.

The win boosted the Tigers' record to 13-9 overall and 9-2 in SWAC action.

The JSU offense was paced by Jayden James, who finished with 22 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .359, and by Alexis Williams, who had 10.Williams also pitched in with five in the contest. The Tigers got 16 digs from Trinity Bryant to lead them defensively.

  • Jackson State never trailed on the way to winning the third set 25-19.

  • JSU evened the match at 1-1 after a 25-22 second-set win.
  • The Tigers grabbed control of the set lead early on at 4-3 and held the lead the rest of the way.
  • Jackson State led by as many as seven points at 17-10 before finishing off the set.
  • JSU won again in set three to make it a 2-1 match.  
  • Jackson State opened up as much as a seven point lead at 8-1 before finishing off the set.
  • The Tigers ended the match with a 25-16 fourth-set victory, winning their third straight set.
  • A strong performance on the attacking end led the Tigers to victory in the set.
  • Jackson State put together a .435 attack percentage with 12 kills in the set win.
  • The Tigers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.
