James, Williams lead Tigers in regular season finale

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.| Jayden James and Alexis Williams both secured double-doubles to help propel the Jackson State volleyball team to a 3-1 victory (25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20) over Bethune-Cookman Sunday on the road at Richard V Moore Gymnasium.

The win improved the Tigers' record to 17-10 overall and 13-3 in SWAC play.

JSU was led by the double-doubles from Williams, who had 13 kills and 17 digs, and James, who had 20 kills and 13 digs. Kyra Dove added 12 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Trinity Bryant chipped in for with 20 digs to go with four blocks from Dove.

  • Jayden James and Alexis Williams each put up double-doubles in the win.
  • Jackson State had three players in double figures in kills.
  • JSU had four players in double figures in digs.
  • Alexis Williams had a team-high two aces in the win.
  • The Tigers put together a strong attacking performance, notching 66 kills in the match.

How It Happened

  • Jackson State grabbed control of the set-one lead at 6-5 and never looked back to win 25-17.
  • The Tigers led by eight points at 23-15 before finishing off the set, totaling 16 kills along the way.
  • JSU continued to roll after a set-one win by earning a 25-17 victory in set two.
  • The Tigers grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that had just one lead change before Jackson State took over in the second half of the stanza.
  • The JSU offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
  • Jackson State couldn't end the match in a sweep, losing set three to make their lead two sets to one in the match.
  • The Tigers came up short by the score of 25-22. Bethune-Cookman grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that was tied up two times before the Wildcats took over in the second half of the stanza.
  • JSU responded to finish off the match with a 25-20 set-four victory.
  • A solid showing on the attacking end led the Tigers to victory in the set.
  • Jackson State registered a .310 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win.
  • The Tigers rallied from down six at 11-5 to claim the win.
