LEXINGTON, Ky. | Jackson State fell to No. 9 Kentucky 108-59 at Rupp Arena in front of 19,961 in attendance on Friday night.
Marcus Watson Jr. led Jackson State with 12 points, while Dorian McMillian added 11. Shannon Grant added nine points and eight rebounds, Romelle Mansel added eight and Dylan Canoville finished with seven points and six rebounds for Jackson State.Â
Meanwhile, Koby Brea led Kentucky with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor including five three-pointers, and Otega Oweh added 21 points for the Wildcats. Jaxson Robinson finished 14 points and Lamont Butler finished with 11 points and five assists for the Wildcats.
Inside the Numbers
Jackson State shot 38.2 (13-of-34) percent in the first half and was held to just one three-pointer finishing at 11.1 (1-of-9) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the first half shooting 42.9 (3-of-7) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Kentucky finished the first half shooting 59.5 (22-of-37) percent from the floor and 40.0 (8-of-20) percent from beyond the arc. They were also perfect from the free throw line, hitting both attempts.
The two teams were tied with 19 rebounds each in the first half.
McMillian led Jackson State with 11 points in the opening half, while Shannon Grant added eight and Romelle Mansel six for the Tigers. Meanwhile, Kentucky was led by Otega Oweh with 13 points and Jaxson Robinson with nine.
Jackson State finished the night shooting 33.3 (23-of-69) percent from the floor and 19.0 (4-of-21) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished at 50.0 (9-of-18) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Kentucky finished the night shooting 57.7 (41-of-71) percent from the floor and 43.6 (17-of-39) from beyond the arc. They also finished at 90.0 (9-of-10) percent from the free throw line.
Game Notes
Kentucky honored a pair of legends during a first half timeout of the half as it celebrated Unity Week, with the two legends being Purvis Short (Jackson State) and Kenny Walker (Kentucky).Â
The game featured a pair of coaches with NBA pedigree as former guards in the league in Jackson State head coach Mo Williams (13 years) and Kentucky assistant coach Jason Hart (11 years).
The game was the second of the year against a top 10 team for Jackson State as it dropped the season-opener at Houston. They will face another top 10 team next weekend in No. 5 Iowa State on the road.Â
The meeting between the two is the first in school history.
