JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State women's basketball team held Florida A&M to just 9.1 percent from 3-point range in a 1-for-11 shooting performance on the way to a 71-44 victory over the Rattlers at home Saturday. Angel Jackson notched a double-double finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Andriana Avent added 13 points off the bench and Miya Crump helped out with 11 points and five steals.
Jackson State grabbed 40 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Florida A&M's 24, led by Jackson's 10 boards. The Tigers also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 11 rebounds into 14 second chance points.
JSU forced 17 Florida A&M turnovers while committing 16 themselves in Saturday's game. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. Crump's five steals led the way for Jackson State.
How It Happened
- After jumping out to a 6-3 advantage, Jackson State (17-6, 12-0 SWAC) went on a 6-0 run with 3:17 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Areyanna Hunter, to increase its lead to 12-3, a score that would hold for the rest of the period.
- Jackson State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 12 points close to the basket.
- The Tigers built that first quarter lead to 18-5 before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 7:04 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Crump, to increase its lead to 24-5.
- JSU kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 35-16 advantage heading into halftime.
- Jackson State dominated in the paint, scoring 16 of its 23 points close to the basket.
- After the half, Jackson State added to its advantage and owned a 54-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
- Jackson State turned two offensive rebounds into four second chance points on the way to scoring 19 total points in the quarter.
- JSU kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Keshuna Luckett's layup, to grow the lead to 66-39 with 3:31 to go in the contest.
- The Tigers held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 71-44 win.
- Jackson State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 17 points.

- Jackson State shot 48.1 percent from the field (25-for-52) and 17-for-22 (77.3 percent) from the free throw line.
- Angel Jackson notched a double-double for the Tigers with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
- JSU finished with 36 points in the paint, 26 bench points, 18 points off of 17 FAMU turnovers, 14 second chance points and 13 fast break points.
- Florida A&M shot 29.3 percent (17-for-58) from the field and 75 percent (9-for12) from the free throw line.
- Ahriahna Grizzle finished with 16 points followed by Jaliya Sharp who had 10 points.
- The Rattlers finished with 32 points in the paint, 16 bench points, 10 second chance points, eight points off of 16 JSU turnovers and seven fast break points.
