JACKSON, Miss. --The Jackson State men's basketball team knocked down 6-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc, shooting 42.9 percent from deep in a 61-60 victory against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at home Monday inside the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
Ken Evans Jr. had 17 points to lead the Tigers (12-14, 8-5 SWAC), who had four players score in double figures. Jordan O'Neal added 16 points and eight rebounds, and Keionte Cornelius chipped in with 11 points and two steals. Keiveon Hunt added 10 points, two steals, and two assists to record his fourth game, scoring 10 points or more.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Tigers, which is the longest streak of the season thus far.
Jackson State forced 14 Bethune-Cookman turnovers and turned those takeaways into 20 points on the offensive end of the floor. Cornelius led the way individually with two steals.
How It Happened
Jackson State started out the scoring by going on a 7-0 run, culminating in a three from Cornelius, to take an early lead with 18:08 left in the first half. The Tigers then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 32-24 advantage. Jackson State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 32 points.
The Wildcats tied things up at 34-34 before Jackson State went on a 6-0 run to seize a 40-34 lead with 16:10 to go in the contest. The Wildcats narrowed the margin somewhat before the game ended, but the Tigers still held on for the 61-60 win.
