Eichelberger's Three RBIs led Tigers Past Valley, 6-2

Jackson, Miss. - Joseph Eichelberger went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs and three RBIs to lead the Jackson State baseball team to a 6-2 win in the series-opening game against Mississippi Valley State this evening at Robert "Bob" Braddy Field. 

Jackson State (5-1) started the scoring early by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jordan McCladdie scored on a single to center field by Eichelberger, and then Eichelberger would score later in the inning on a single to center field by Lenny Montesano

The Tigers would add three more runs in the third inning on a double by Eichelberger that scored Rodney Hibler and McCladdie. Eichelberger would once again come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Montesanto. 

JSU would add one final run in the bottom of the eighth when McCladdie blasted a solo home run over the right field wall to give the Tigers the 6-2 win.   

The Delta Devils (0-1) were able to scratch across a run in the top of the second and sixth innings. 

Garrett VanDeventer (1-0) picked up the win for the Tigers as he went seven innings and struck out nine batters. 

The Tigers will be back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon for game two of the series in Itta Bena at Magnolia Field on Mississippi Valley State's campus. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
