NEWARK, NJ - The Jackson State men's basketball team outrebounded the Grambling Tigers 38-36 but fell 70-62 in the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic at Prudential Center Saturday afternoon.
Ken Evans had 15 points and five assists to lead the Tigers (8-13, 4-4 SWAC), who had three players score in double figures. Chase Adams added 14 points, four assists, and three steals, and Jordan O'Neal helped out with 11 points and six rebounds.
Led by Treyon Johnson's seven offensive rebounds, Jackson State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 19 boards and resulting in 13 second-chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 7-5, Jackson State went on a 9-0 run with 15:34 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Adams, to take a 14-7 lead. Grambling State (9-12, 6-2 SWAC) then responded to tie things up at 29-29, heading into halftime. Jackson State got a boost from behind the arc in the period, hitting four shots to account for 12 of its 29 points.
Grambling State broke the tie, taking control in the second half and winning 70-62. Jackson State made the most of eight offensive rebounds to tack on five second-chance points out of 33 in the period.
