JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State men's basketball team got a 23-point performance from the bench but fell 72-63 to the Southern Jaguars at home Monday.
Ken Evans had 16 points and two steals to lead the Tigers (8-14, 4-5 SWAC), with two players scoring double figures. Keiveon Hunt tacked on 11 points and three steals off the bench, and Jordan O'Neal added seven points, two steals, and three blocks for Jackson State.
Jackson State did a great job disrupting Southern's (13-9, 7-2 SWAC) shots in the contest, coming away with eight blocks. O'Neal's three rejections led the way individually for the Tigers.
How It Happened
Jackson State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 37-22 heading into halftime.
Jackson State narrowed its deficit to 46-33 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Keionte Cornelius' three-pointer, to shrink the deficit to 46-39 with 12:33 to go in the contest. Southern responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 72-63. Jackson State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 16 of its 41 total points.
