GAME 2 | Jackson State 4, Alabama State 2
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Junior Isaiah Williams was dealing for the Jackson State Tigers on Saturday, allowing just two runs in a 4-2 victory against the Alabama State Hornets in game two of the doubleheader.
Williams's quality outing (4-0) earned him the victory on the mound for Jackson State (15-4, 2-0 SWAC). The left-hander pitched 7.2 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing three walks, and striking out six. Senior Christian Womble also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none, and striking out two.
Junior Jordan McCladdie led the Tigers offensively, going 1-for-4 with a triple, a walk, and an RBI. Freshman Robert Tate Jr. compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-2 with two walks. Senior Rodney Hibler Jr. also helped, going 1-for-5 for Jackson State with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Junior Myles White came across to score the lone run of the inning for Jackson State and get them on the board.
The Tigers lost the lead they built in the fourth but got back on the board in the fifth, trailing 2-1. Jackson State put up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of McCladdie, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Tigers.
Jackson State kept Alabama State without a run before building their lead to 4-2 in the seventh inning. The Tigers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Hibler Jr.. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as Jackson State held on for the win.
